Rowing in Stourport on Severn
Stourport Boat Club is situated on the River Severn, adjacent to the town bridge (access off Harold Davies Drive)
The River Severn (the UK’s longest river), the River Stour, and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal surround and intersect the town, creating a range of leisure opportunities on and by the water and a variety of attractive destinations in the surrounding picturesque Severn Valley and the beautiful Worcestershire countryside. The town offers a perfect family day out through its fascinating canal and architectural heritage, beautiful location on the banks of the River Severn, vibrant shopping streets, excellent choices of places to eat and drink, events, attraction and activities.
At times of flood the Severn can rise rapidly, particularly in the upper reaches and can reach a level of over five metres above its normal summer height. It is not uncommon for the river to rise higher than its banks and spread out over the surrounding floodplain several times in the course of a normal winter and flash floods can occur in the summer.
Despite the picturesque surroundings, the Boathouse has succumbed to major flooding in 1947 and in 2014.
