Gold at British Rowing Masters Championships

, ,

The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham provided a weekend of glorious weather for the British Rowing Masters Championships which saw a record number of rowers taking to the water on Sunday 18th May. As always, there was fierce competition during 11 hours of racing and the competitors enjoyed sunny and warm conditions despite a strong cross head wind

All the hard work and dedication came to fruition for Duncan Gwilliam as he out classed the entire field in the Masters E category, easily winning his heat and then going on to cruise home to Gold in the final, easily by 10 seconds.

The women’s eight also had a good race finishing in the pack.

A fantastic performance by our novice girls saw them in genuine contention for a medal. Despite a slow start, they showed tremendous guts and determination to battle back to the overlap racing right to the finish and it was one of the most exciting races of the day! Well done to Helen Carter, Jo Scattergood, Hillary Little and Denise White, well motivated and coxed by Nicki Holbeche.
