Head of the Dart Success !

Three crews from Stourport raced at the Head of the Dart last weekend, with an all-round impressive set of results.

Duncan Gwilliam won in the 1x event, racing against eleven others including Putney Town RC, City of Bristol and Royal Navy.  In the Mas E 2x event Stu Barnett and Don Taylor came third, and the Mas D 8+ came a credible second in a field of eight, which included the local Dart Totnes winning crew.

Sharp bends and sweeping currents with shifting wind direction test cox and rower alike and make this annual event not just a race but an exciting challenge for the experience of taking part and finishing the nine mile course.

Lee Greenwood

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of our long standing members and supporters of the club.

Lee "Blobby" Greenwood passed away yesterday following a battle with cancer which was diagnosed just before Christmas.

Lee joined the club in the early 90's and following his rowing career supported the club socially and was a founder member of the Wednesday night "Grumpy Club" where a few beers were drunk and the world was put to rights.

Lee was the "behind the scenes" IT wizard who developed our excellent regatta programme and provided all the technical bits which contributed enormously to allow us to run one of the best regional regattas.

Never one to stand in the spotlight, much of his contribution would have gone unnoticed to the vast number of members and visitors to the club and following weeks of preparation work he would tuck himself away at the start for the whole of the regatta weekend only appearing at the end of each day to partake of his favourite tipple, a pint of Stella.

Lee will be sadly missed and our thoughts go out to his parents and his sister Lisa.

UPDATE - Details for those wishing to attend Lee's funeral are as follows;

Friday 27th January 2017, 1pm at Wyre Forest Crematorium followed at SBC boathouse.

We welcomed a new Junior double "Whippersnapper" to the fleet, in the usual celebratory manner.  This new boat is the due effort of many people raising funds from raffles, our summer regatta, bag packing (thank you Tesco !) etc and our sponsors. Thank you to all those involved !
